The Earth Charter is a universal expression of ethical principles to foster sustainable development. The Earth Charter Initiative is the global network that embraces, uses and integrates the Earth Charter principles. These principles are an international declaration of fundamental values and principles considered useful by its supporters for building a just, sustainable, and peaceful global society in the 21st century.

World of Walas is driven by the values and principles of the Earth Charter. Gerben has been a supporter or the Earth Charter Initiative since it launched in 2000. He authored the Earth Charter Cities Manifesto in 2009, and founded World of Walas to offer a fundamentally different approach to urban development.
