It’s official! Spinnerij Oosterveld joins the World of Walas.

April 26, 2017 is a day of celebration for World of Walas! Walas is proud to announce that Spinnerij Oosterveld has officially joined the Walas family. Walas has worked with the local community of Enschede in the Netherlands since 2016 to bring the Walas Way to the old textile factory. In just over a year, the Spinnerij has become a thriving hub for high-tech, innovators, accelerators and entrepreneurs. It is running near capacity with a thriving community and dramatically improved economic and environmental performance. Walas is looking forward to its future with the Spinnerij Oosterveld, spinning success the Walas way.

Spinnerij Oosterveld, Powered by World of Walas is a hotspot for accelerators in the historical place of Twente, Holland. The industrial textile roots of Twente are still tangible in and around the characteristic 1911 building. Where people used to spin yarns in the mill, there is now a growing community of innovative and accomplished high tech entrepreneurs, along with a number of organizations focused on branding, marketing, ICT and other diverse supporting services. The building is being seen as a Living Lab for innovation and sustainability.

Walas began work in the Spinnerij Oosterveld in 2016, building comprehensive strategies, including Ecogrowth, for the community, physical environment and financial performance. The focus was on creating space and community for promising entrepreneurs and appropriate, established businesses, opportunities and concrete jobs for people with distance to the labour market, improving the performance of the physical build environment while preserving its unique DNA and making the project financially sustainable.

Our community is still growing, with more exciting tenants and opportunities on the way and physical improvements including an additional 650 solar panels, a mobility program for car sharing, a Biomass installation for generating sustainable heat, phase changing and cradle-to-cradle materials for heat release.
